Drake Leaked New Single - Inspired by 1947 Experimental Film

On Friday, May 20 Drake leaked a song titled Dreams Money Can Buy which will be on his upcoming album.  Both the title of the song, DREAMS MONEY CAN BUY, and the visual image/saying that he uses, "THIS IS THE STORY OF DREAMS MIXED WITH REALITY," on his blog to accompany the song (see above) is taken from this 1947 experimental film by Hans Richter.  See the entire film below and peep what sent Drake on the mental journey that ended up being an amazing single.

Jazz, Poetry, Vintage Music - Saying Goodbye to the 20s

So when Kari turned 30, I told her that as good as they were to her, she had to finally "Say Goodbye to the Twenties"...and I helped her do it in style.  That was 4 years ago.  Yesterday on her birthday, we went back down memory lane to the sights, the sounds, the smells of yesteryear...when we got together with our RAGTIME crew of artists and bootlegger friends and relived yester-decade.

Metro Goldwyn Mayer's first sound cartoon meets VISION Philms to Present:
Flip the Frog
in
LESTER LEAPS IN
-The 1930 classic cartoon "Fiddlesticks" remixed by Carlton Mackey.
The original cartoon is chopped up, edited, and spliced together with music from Count Basie (Lester Leaps In) and My True Vision Photography.
Enjoy the remix below then check out the Original Cartoon.

i'm writing to what I hear
and what I hear is a sound that
takes me back to a place i've never been
but always wanted to go
a place where the room
is filled with smoke
and everybody knows
that you just stepped in.
gin and rum
whiskey and bootleg brew
Ragtime Willie
and Betsy Blue
do
what no one else can
make this place rock to the point you can't stand
without spilling the little bit
of what is left in your flask...

now that's what i call jazz.

Soledad O'Brien told me to tell you Happy Birthday!

On behalf of the whole crew, I'd like to wish Zev a Happy Birthday today.  To honor his day, I'm posting these photos I took of him a couple of months ago while he was doing his thing....real big I might add...on Emory's campus.  In conjunction with the Center for Ethics the Emory University College Council hosts an annual event titled the STATE OF RACE.  This year's guest speaker was author, CNN journalist, special correspondent Soledad O'Brien (you know...CNN presents: Black in America/Muslim in America/Latino in America series).  Zev or Daniel Weingarten as he was introduced this particular night opened the event with a spoken word piece.  He ripped it, of course...and as you can tell from the photos, I think Mrs. O'Brien would certainly agree.

Be on the lookout for the Birthday Boy later this spring as he steps to the 'Mic' again.  This time it might be accompanied by two turn tables.
